Directions

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is located at 400 Michigan Avenue in Northeast Washington. Adjacent to the campus of The Catholic University of America, it is minutes from the Capital Beltway (Interstates 95 & 495) and downtown Washington. Ample free parking is available. Washington’s Metrorail System is another reaches the Shrine; only three blocks west of Metro’s Brookland Station on the Red Line.

Directions from Virginia and the South

Take the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Bridge (Route 66) to Constitution Avenue in Washington.
Travel east on Constitution Avenue to Louisiana Avenue.
Turn left onto Louisiana Avenue.
Travel two blocks and turn left onto North Capitol Street
Continue on North Capitol Street to Michigan Avenue.
Turn right onto Michigan Avenue.
The Basilica is four blocks east on the left.

Directions from Maryland and the North

Take Interstate 95 South onto the Capital Beltway (Route 495) west (toward Virginia).
Travel the Beltway a short distance to Exit 28
Take Exit 28 onto New Hampshire Avenue (Route 650 south).
Proceed along New Hampshire Avenue approximately 2.5 miles to North Capitol Street.
Turn left onto North Capitol Street (headed south).
Follow North Capital Street for approximately two miles and exit at the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home.
Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Scale Gate Road.
Follow Scale Gate Road east to the intersection with Harewood Road.
Turn right on Harewood Road.
The Basilica is three blocks south on the left.
